Discover PGA Aroeira in the South of Lisbon

The 36-holes at Aroeira have been given official PGA accreditation and have now been renamed as PGA Aroeira Golf Club. Tucked in the southern part of Lisbon, the golf club is well located for golfers seeking both a golf and beach break. The beach itself is only a 5-minute drive away which, many people do not realise.  The golf courses complement each other well, with two courses to choose from. Play the PGA Aroeira No. 1 (formerly Aroeira Pines Classic) and the PGA Aroeira No. 2 (formerly Aroeira Challenge). Both are great and truly, there is not much to pick between them! As a 36-hole set-up, both are well worth including in your itinerary, particularly if staying in Aroeira Hotel or Crowne Plaza Costa Caparica. Both hotels offer a great golfers atmosphere, incredible value and are well-located to enjoy all the local beaches, restaurants and bars in this stunning part of Lisbon.

PGA Aroeira No. 1

PGA Aroeira No. 1 is the original 18-holes within the development and is a must-play if staying in the Lisbon area or if in one of the nearby accommodation options. Famed golf course architect Frank Pennink designed the golf course in 1972 so it does have a lot of history about it. For those who don’t know, Pennink was the creator of other famous golf courses in Portugal including the Old Course in Vilamoura and the original 18 at Palmares. Expect tree-lined fairways and small greens to keep you honest! It is a very enjoyable golf course with some rather impressive real estate flanking certain holes.  The golf course really comes to life on the back nine.
A very walkable course and traditional design makes for a fun and excellent value 18-holes.  
The clubhouse is an excellent spot overlooking the 18th green. With a sprawling terrace, perfect to enjoy a drink, some food and watch the golfers coming in, it is a very relaxed day out and offers amongst the best value golf in the region.

PGA Aroeira No. 1 >

PGA Aroeira No. 2

PGA Aroeira No.2 is a great golf course. Unlike its sister course, No.1, it offers a different test. Aroeira No.2 course still has plenty of those fantastic pine trees lining a few of the fairways but is generally more open. Much more latitude to step up and hit driver. Defending the fairways are strategic fairway bunkers and expect some water to come into play on approach to make you think about club selection. The greens are larger and in line with the more modern designs in today's game. Overall, it is a more playable golf course in this respect and a lot of fun. You can see why PGA Aroeira No.2 is earmarked to host some higher profile events in the future.
