Vancouver Experiences
Framed by the sea on one side and snow-capped peaks on the other, Vancouver is a city that seems to have it all - glittering downtown towers, forest and beaches on the doorstep, and one of the finest food scenes in North America. There's far more to do here than any single trip could hope to cover, from galleries and markets to whale-watching and mountain-top gondolas. To give you an idea of what to do, here are a few experiences we recommend during your visit.
Exploring Vancouver
A short stroll from downtown, Stanley Park is one of the great urban parks anywhere in the world — a vast expanse of towering rainforest, seawall and shoreline wrapped around the city's edge. Walk, cycle or roll the famous Seawall for sweeping views of the harbour, mountains and skyline, or lose yourself among the totem poles and old-growth giants. A perfect way to spend a relaxed few hours in the fresh air.
Just across the water in North Vancouver, the Capilano Suspension Bridge sways high above a rushing river gorge, deep in a forest of towering firs. Beyond the main crossing, a series of smaller bridges threads out through the treetops and a walkway clings to the granite cliff face. It's a thrilling, family-friendly half-day, and one of the city's most popular attractions.
Vancouver's oldest quarter, Gastown is all cobblestone streets, handsome Victorian buildings and the famous steam clock that puffs on the hour. Today it's one of the city's most characterful neighbourhoods, packed with independent boutiques, galleries and some of Vancouver's best restaurants and bars. A wonderful spot to wander, browse and settle in for a long lunch or an evening out.
On the western edge of downtown, English Bay is the city's favourite stretch of sand — a golden crescent backed by a lively promenade of tree-lined paths, cafés and restaurants. It's the go-to spot to watch the sun sink over the water, join the evening stroll along the seawall, or simply sit back with an ice cream and soak up the scene. Come summer, there's nowhere better to feel Vancouver's laid-back coastal side.
