From Royal Troon and Turnberry to Prestwick and Machrihanish Dunes, the West of Scotland is home to some of the world`s best links golf courses.
With two of Scotland`s five Open Championship venues, the West of Scotland is a Mecca for golf enthusiasts the world over, but there is more to it than the incredible Royal Troon and Turnberry. It has many fine links golf courses, from Prestwick and Dundonald to Western and Glasgow Gailes. All are within a short drive of each other making this area a great destination for a golf holiday or shorter golf break. Further north in Argyll you`ll find fewer golf courses but Machrihanish Dunes and Machrihanish Golf Club are two unmissable links classics. Machrihanish Dunes sits on a Site of Special Scientific Interest so it is as natural a layout as you will find and Machrihanish Golf Club has one of the most challenging and visually spectacular 1st tee shots in golf. There`s also plenty of great quality golf in and around the city of Glasgow and you can hop on a ferry from Ardrossan or Oban and play some very special hidden gems on islands like Arran and Islay.
