Distance From Course: 17 miles

The Queens course at Gleneagles is a fantastic course and should be on any itinerary when you visit this part of Scotland. It is considerably shorter than the Kings and PGA courses but in no way is it easy. The lack of length around the Queens is due to there being an array of par 3’s and only one par 5 making birdie chances a rarity.

The Queens at Gleneagles is the prettiest of all the Gleneagles courses and allows you more to enjoy the beauty of the place. It’s ideal for a relaxing round if you’re staying at the hotel after playing the other courses – you may even shoot a good score.

The highlight of the round at the Queens is the 15^th hole – a typical risk/reward par 4 that could yield an eagle. If you play it well, then it’s definitely something to treasure.

The PGA course at Gleneagles has played host to some of the most prestigious events on the golfing calendar; the 2014 Ryder Cup and the 2019 Solheim Cup where both times Europe has been victorious. Although all 3 courses at Gleneagles are fantastic, the PGA course has a special feel to it that you don’t get at many courses.

Distance From Course: 17 miles

Ladybank Golf Club continued in the fine tradition of its more illustrious neighbours by engaging legendary course designer Old Tom Morris to lay out the original, 6-hole heathland course.  It was extended over the years with the 18 hole version opeing in 1961.

Ladybank has hosted local final qualifying for the Open Championship as recently as 2010 and many world renowned players, including Sam Torrance, Bernhard Langer and Justin Leonard have graced the fine heathland fairways.

Look out for the signature hole - the 9th - a dog-leg par 4 with a tricky two tier green. 

Distance From Course: 13 miles

Scotscraig is another of the R&A`s preferred final qualifying venues for the Open Championship.  It last hosted this prestigious tournament in 2010 - the year Louis Oosthuizen defeated a distant Lee Westwood at the main event over the Old Course, St Andrews.

The course is, strictly speaking, a heathland layout, but it proximity to the North Sea coast means you will have to deal with a fairly reliable sea breeze and fairways that bear more than a passing resemblance to their link-land cousins.

The 4th and 14th holes are particularly good, the first demanding accuracy to avoid deep riveted bunkers and the latter requiring a combination on power an accuracy to conquer its considerable 523 yard length.

Rosemount was described as "the most beautiful green I have ever seen" by Tom Morris - golfer and course design legend.  It was actually designed by James Braid and combines reasonably forgiving faorways with large undulating greens to provide players with a firm but fair challenge.  It was also the scene of Greg Norman`s first European Tour victory when he triumphed in the 1977 Martini event.

The Landsdowne is the younger brother of the renowned Rosemount golf course.  It was designed by Peter Allis and Dave Thomas and is widely regarded as the tougher of the two courses.  Accuracy off the tee is essential and smaller targets make this is tricky but enjoyable challenge for players of all standards.
