Originally built in 1937 but completely transformed by Robert Trent Jones in 1991, the Santo de Serra Course offers 27 holes with stunning views of the island and surrounding Atlantic Ocean. Home to the Madeira Island Open, the course prides itself on the meticulous care given to the course conditions the course is surrounded by botanical gardens with 4 lakes coming into play on a number of holes. The Machico and Desertas are the 2 loops usually played during the Madeira Open and are among the toughest holes at Santo de Serra. The Serras is the 3rd loop and despite being slightly more straightforward, maintains the same high level of condition.
