The Estoril Golf Club first opened as a 9 hole course in 1929, but was upgraded to 18 holes in 1936. It is the oldest club in the Lisbon area, and is steeped in tradition, having held the Portuguese Open no less than twenty times. Great players like Colin Montgomerie, Gene Sarazen, and Bernhard Gallacher, have graced these fairways.
Estoril Golf Course Description
The course itself is a Par 69, set amongst Pine trees. At 5844 yards, it is quite short by modern standards, but this does not make it easy. Accuracy, rather than distance, is the order of the day.
The Mackenzie Ross-designed Estoril Golf Course is perfectly located 25 minutes West of Lisbon, and provides the ideal chance to play one of the oldest courses in Portugal. The prices are very reasonable, but it can be quite tricky getting tee times at the weekend. It is advisable to play during the week.
