The Vila Sol Resort stands in 150 hectares just a five minute drive from the resort of Vilamoura. The 27 hole layout was designed by Donald Steel and is divided into three loops of varying difficulty.
Vila Sol Course Description – The Prime Loop
The opening four holes of the Prime Loop are regarded as the most difficult start to any course on the Algarve with long narrow fairways and well guarded greens. The signature hole is the long 6th which has three lakes making careful placement on both tee-shot and second shot a must to avoid these hazards.
Vila Sol Course Description – The Challenge Loop
The Challenge Loop is better known as the back 9 of Vila Sol and is built on more undulating terrain than the sister courses. The first five holes are fairly straightforward with the only problems being club selection on approach shots to the elevated greens. The last four holes offer a slightly tougher test with tight fairways requiring accuracy and placement from the tee with an iron or fairway wood often the more sensible choice.
Vila Sol Course Description – The Prestige Loop
The Prestige Loop is the newest addition to Vila sol and is the shortest of the three courses. Accuracy rather than distance is required due to the narrow fairways, with water hazards coming into play on four holes. Despite only having five bunkers, a number of natural hazards have been brought into play and careful placement from the tee is a must to avoid being blocked out on the approach shots by the numerous cork trees which line the fairways.
With a choice of three 9 hole loops in a stunning setting, at least one round at Vila Sol Golf Courses is highly recommended during a visit to this area of the Algarve.
