The Vila Sol Resort stands in 150 hectares just a 5 minute drive from the resort of Vilamoura. The 27 hole layout was designed by Donald Steel and are divided into 3 loops of varying difficulty.
The Prime Loop is the original front 9 and is regarded as the most difficult with the opening 4 holes regarded as the most difficult start of any course on the Algarve with long narrow fairways and well guarded greens. The signature hole is the long par 6th which has 3 lakes making careful placement on both tee-shot and 2nd shot a must to avoid these hazards.
The Challenge Loop is better known as the back nine of Vilasol and is built on more undulating terrain than the sister courses. The first 5 holes are fairly straightforward with the only problems being club selection on approach shots to the elevated greens. The last 4 holes offer a slightly tougher test with tight fairways requirng accuracy and placement from the tee with an iron or fairway wood often the more sensible choice.
The Prestige Loop is the newest addition to Vilasol and is the shortest of the 3 courses. Accuracy and not length is required due to the narrow fairways with water hazards also coming into play on 4 holes. Despite only having 5 bunkers a number of natural hazards have been brought into play and careful placement from the tee is a must to avoid being blocked out on the approach shots by the numerous cork trees which line the fairways.
With a choice of 3 x 9 hole loops in a stunning setting at least 1 round at Vilasol is highly recommened during a visit to this area of the Algarve.
